Living in Lewes, Delaware

Have you ever felt like you stepped back in time?

Life in Lewes has been described by residents as quaint, peaceful, and convenient. It has a small town charm with a touch of suburban feel and holds a lot of history. Many come to Lewes for the beaches or the tax savings, but the community and the people are the reason people end up living in Lewes permanently. They visit and adore it so much that they simply never want to leave!

When we asked a group of Lewes transplants what they enjoy most, they had a hard time narrowing it down. Some said that they loved the friendliness of the people, others enjoyed the shopping, and the foodies cited the restaurants. Conveniences were also noted such as:

• Being only a two to three hour drive from various major metropolitan areas like Washington DC, Baltimore, and Philadelphia
• Proximity to necessities; “everything you need is within five miles”
• Tax benefits (no sales tax, personal property tax, etc.)

Despite the aforementioned relaxed lifestyle of the coastal area, Lewes is still an active town with many health and fitness aficionados who love the miles and miles of trail. Additionally, there are a lot of outdoor activities and nature to explore. You can find something for almost everyone. For example, you can go bird and dolphin watching, fishing, garden tours, to the local dog park, and much more.
